The Day We Changed Our Clothes
The day started with another incredible breakfast at the Lodge. The Spanish Omelette is the dish of choice. Our meal in the morning always got us together and on the right mind-set for the day and included a devotion and prayer. Cornelius, our host, always came to greet us and tell us stories of his travels and meeting many people (George Bush, Jimmy Carter, Clarence Thomas, Bill Gates, ...).
This morning we did eyeglass testing for a few people at the Lodge, including Rashid, our server and his wife. We wanted to see if they needed glasses and they did - and we brought their glasses back from the clinic. We were so glad to help these very nice people.
Today was another memorable day at the clinic. One man that captured our heart was Moses, was a watch repairman. He was so happy he could see his watch. He didn’t want to read for the test, but brought an open watch to see if he could see the inner workings better - and he did! What a blessing to him. His livelihood is repairing watches - and now we can continue doing that.
The clinic was busy, but then people cleared out quickly in the early afternoon. We asked why and were told that the government was bringing food to be distributed. This is because of the drought. We were told this does not happen often so people wanted to take advantage of it.
After testing the remaining students, we closed the clinic and had our closing ceremony with the students. We were surprised with gifts of shirts and dresses and bags, all made by the students. We changed into our new clothes and talked to the students before we left. These were such special gifts from them. They worked hard, only having two days to complete and outfit for each of us. The Next Life School is such a blessing.
Our final time with the translators and students was spent formally thanking them and encouraging them to take their talents and their love of Jesus and continue into life dreaming big. They have the skills, attitude, and the Gospel to continue to prosper, and we hope and pray for them - and will continue to do so. And we told them what an awesome job they did with our new clothes!
Loretta’s devotion was on prayer. What a powerful thing we do: Pray.
The kids made Jim and Lin matching shirts - so beautiful!
